The David Donovan Collection on Hydrology and Geology (1911-2011) is comprised of the research collected by former Las Vegas Valley Water District employee, David Donovan, about groundwater, hydrology, minerals, and geology in Nevada, as well as the surrounding areas of California, Arizona, and Utah. Included are reports, professional papers, maps, and books.
The David Donovan Collection on Hydrology and Geology (1911-2011) consists of research papers, technical reports, United States Geological Survey publications, and books collected during David Donovan's time working for the Las Vegas Water District from 1991 to 2014. Included are information on hydrology, groundwater, geology, and minerals in Nevada and the surrounding states of California, Arizona, Colorado, and Utah. The collection mainly contains reports published by the U.S. Geological Survey and the Las Vegas Water District that focus specifically on Nevada water issues. The collection also contains a number of Geological Society of America conference abstracts, conference programs, and research files kept by Terry Katzer, a colleague of David Donovan.

David Donovan worked as a Las Vegas, Nevada hydrogeologist. His work and research focused on wells, drilling, ground and surface water, and the Las Vegas Valley aquifer. Donovan earned his Bachelors of Science from Northern Arizona University in geology in 1987, and in 1996 he earned his Masters of Science from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas where he focused on geoscience and hydrology. In 2014 Donovan started his own consulting firm, Aqua Petrus, where he advises on hydraulic studies, climate change, drilling, geophysical analysis, aquifer testing, and water-level maps.

A rough inventory of the accession was created by Tammi Kim and Maggie Bukowski in 2017. In 2018, Joyce Moore rehoused the materials, wrote the finding aid and entered the data into ArchivesSpace.
