3 A school population of over 400 - Dr. Dorchester estimates it at 500. Of this number 170 can be accommodated at this school and Colorado River school. Thus we have about 300 children among these 3 tribes alone who have never had, and who cannot expect to have under the present conditions, any school advantages. Quoting from Dr. Dorchester’s report of 1890 (p. 263) referring to the needs of the Arizona youth in this section, “Here therefore, is a great field. The new school just opened at Fort Mojave, will help to meet the needs, but there is still occasion for another school,” and again on page 264: “In Arizona we find the greatest need for Indian education.
