H. HAWGOOD Chief Engineer San Pedro, Los Ange Los Angeles, Cal. Mch. 9, 1903, File No. 209 Mr. J. Ross Clark, Second Vice President. Dear Sir: I am advised by Mr. McCartney that the negotiations for the purchase of the Stewart Ranch at Las Vegas has been closed and that Mr. McDermott has gone down to take possession. If this property passes into your control I would suggest that with a reasonable expenditure it could be made a good headquarters point during construction, a place where a stock of engineers supplies and provisions, including feed for teams, could be carried. Las Vegas lies about 80 miles from the present end of the California-Eastern and 123 miles from Calientes, and would make a very convenient distributing point. Yours respectfully, Chief Engineer.
