Dear Sir, Your message asking that I secure Mr. Mahl's resignation was duly received. Yesterday I took up the matter with Mr. Cornell in Judge Lovett's office, who stated that he thought the Judge delivered Mr. Mahl’s resignation to the Senator, hut as the Senator had told me the day he returned from the interview with Judge Lovett that owing to Mr. Mahl's absence from town they had been unable to secure his resignation, I told Mr. Cornell there must be some mistake and asked him to write to Mr. Mahl, I then replied to your wire that Mr. Lovett's office would get the resignation and forward to you in a few days. Last night I received a telegram from the Senator sent from Jerome, informing me that he had Mr. Mahl's written resignation with him, and I infer that you have been advised of this so it will not be necessary for me to wire you further.
