Boss Clark, Huntington Building, Los Angeles, California. Lear Sir,- & Tonop^ «, Jdbh $ jJ? O' 1 APR 1 7 1909 ? File Ne,.»... /4> rcX^' 4 ii THE P^sV° Beferring to your letter tenth instant, File 1199, addressed to Mr .Bancroft, suggesting that the Las Yegas Land and Water Company Build some houses at Las Yegas for the use of the employes of the Bailroad Company, I am thoroughly in accord with your suggestion in this matter and believe the investment will return a good rate of interest and at the same time that such a course will he of advantage to the Railroad Company in furnishing suitable and modem quarters for railroad employes at reasonable rates and in this way enable the Railroad Company to get a better class of employes and keep them longer in service. The Land and Water Company, as you know, has two blocks at Las Yegas for this purpose. If the Land and Water Company would build ten houses on the start, I believe it would stimulate other lot owners to build similar houses and it might not be necessary for either the Railroad Company or Land and Water Company to build any more houses unless they so desired. Something will have to be done along this line either by the Bailroad Company or Land and Water Company and the sooner the work is started the better, because as you say it will not be many months before the demand for houses at Las Yegas by railroad employes will greatly exceed the supply. CC-Mr.Bancroft Yours respectfully, CC-Mr.Bettis.
