\ i (Copy$ Packing house-Rivera Ida, Los Angeles, November 7, 1911. Mr. H. £... Wells, General Manager, Bear Sir:- Referring to telephone conversation with your office yesterday, I have advertised for and received bids to cover labor constructing packing house which it is proposed to lease to John R. Westfall. I received a bid from Contractor A. J. Roberts of Ocean Park, Calif., under terms of which we will be able to save about $600.00 as compared with cost of doing the work with our own forces. X have had contract drawn between Roberts and the Railroad Company and have arranged for necessary bond to be given by contractor guaranteeing fulfillment of his contract, which will specify that the building be completed and in shape to admit of lessee beginning the packing of oranges within thirty days from date of contract. I am not able to enclose the contract with this letter as I have sent papers to Mr. Halsted with request to make some changes. On account of the short time we have to erect this building and place it in operation I am rushing the details of preparation of contract all possible, and have for this purpose requested that the oontractor call at Mr. Halsted*s office and sign the contract, and will ask Mr. Halsted to then deliver same to you for signature. Am taking this course merely for the sake of saving a little time on the proposition. Our material is all on the ground and everything is in readiness now to commence erection of the building. Respectfully, (Signed) T.P. CULLEN Supe r int endent.
