LAS VEGAS SUN July 30, 1952 jp—i—!-----vv y I North Main Street Widening Project Bid Won fy ills, Cargo Road Firm Contract for, the North Main Street expansion program was ^warded to Wells Cargo, Inc. as bids for the'project were opened by Nevada highway department officials in Carson City yesterday afternoon, Otis Wright, division engineer, announced last night. Wright said the Wells Cargo firm, with offices in Reno and Las Vegas, submitted a bid of $329,831.95 which was the lowest of five opened by the department. Under terms of the award, the work on the project is to get underway within 15 days with 120 working days permitted for completion of the job, Wright reported. Other bidders for the job were listed as: Young and Smith Construction Co., of Las Vegas,, and Salt Lake City, $330,964.75; Dodge Construction Co., of Fallon, $347,- 555.08; Silver State Construction Co., Fallon, $353,901.00 and Isbell Construction Co., Reno, $384,- 135.70. Wright said 'the project involves the widening of the .thoroughfare'into a four-lane arterial extending north from Bonanza Road to College avenue, a distance of about one and one-half miles. , He said the two hills on the road mid-way between the two communities of Las Vegas and North Las Vegas will be smoothed out fo permit clear vision of the street from any point. Included in the project will be the first steps toward the actual construction of the North Las Vegas sewer system, with the bids including the installation of mains which will cross under- , neath the four-lane highway1, according to Wright. A pedestrian operated signal will be< installed at Five Points crossingj'he added.
