Las Vegas Evening Review-Journal October 19, 1942 (From where I Sit) ? \ Two large Las Vegas residen- • tial districts are without fire pro-1 - tection apparently because thef city either can’t or won’t make a definite decision as to who is to' pay for the fire plugs installed. For years it has been the policy f of the city to buy fire plugs, ’ with the water company provid- iing the mains, the water, the connections and making the installation. At the moment there is ONE lone fire plug in the Mayfair' Addition (100 homes), NO plugs | at all in Biltmore (200 homes and • a hotel). . Combine a bad- fire and one of these high winds we’ve been having of late, and a lot of people would be home- less. Why ISN’T whatever con- troversy there is, SETTLED BE- iFORE A CATASTROPHIC FIRE i INSTEAD QF AFTERWARD? Jf Why, in short, doesn’t someone 1 iin the city administration bring <>g jthe matter to a head? ! Residents' of these and other more recent projects are certainly entitled to fire protection, regardless of who buys the fire plugs. In the case of the two subdivisions mentioned, we’re arguing about approximately $2,000, the»cost of one not-toO-se- rious fire. * * * *
