The people of L as Vegas are urgently requested to cooperate to the fullest possible extent in conserving the w ater supply of the C ity... L ast night the City Commissioners in special session passed an em ergency ordinance prohibiting the w aste of w ater, and pro­viding th at the w atering of lawns, trees, etc., may be done only be­tween the hours of 5^)0 A. M. and 8 O’Clock in the Morning I 5:00 P. M. and 8 O’Clock in the Evening. In order th at the people may know the reason therefor, and the seriousness of the w ater situation, the following facts are p re­sented: 1. During the past month more water passed through the Master Meter, measuring the supply of w ater to the City, than in any other month of the past four y ears.. 2. Evidently a large portion of this water was not put to bene­ficial use, but was run into the sewer line. This is evidenced by the fact that the flow of w ater to the septic tank is so large that its capacity is being taxed, although it was con­structed for a city of twice our present population. 3. Over half the supply of w ater in storage in the city reservoir has been used, and the water level therein is dropping a t the rate of 17 inches per week. 4. All w ater flowing through the mains is now devoted exclus­ively to the use of the City ; the Railroad Company is using no w ater from the mains, but is securing their supply by pumping the well in the railroad yards—the first time this has been necessary in 10 years. The supply of w ater flowing from the well and springs is suf­ficient for all requirem ents if the w ater is used only where ac­tually needed, and not wasted. If you have a leaky faucet or a w ater Valve th at cannot be properly closed, please have it fixed.
