September 13, 1948 Mr* l« M. Murphy City Manager Lae Vegas, Nevada Pear Mr, Murphyi As one of those present at the meeting whloh endorsed the sewer rental charge, I enclose »y shook for sewer rental at my home, to the end of the year, 1 an also asking our treasurer to nail to the City Clerk a vouoher covering the fixtures in rooming house operated by the Mater Company. In thie connection, the thought occurs that the heaviest users of the sewer mains have apparently been overlooked in the schedule cf charges. I refer to water-cooled refrigerators and cooling naohlnes where water Is run through the colls and dumped direct Into the sewer mains, without using a recapture device. It is suggested that If a city Inspector were to examine the plumbing arrangements in the business district It would develop that 75# of the sewage water flooding the mains in that district comes from that source. It le true that thie practice is prohibited by City ordinance covering the waste of water! but now it is also causing undue expense to the City cf Las Vegas for additional sewage disposal facilities. If a flat charge of say $10.08 per month were assessed those business houses who dump their cooling water direct into the sewer main, it would soon become obvious to the owner that it would be more economical to install the recapture device required by ordinance. Sou have always shown a tendency to be fair in matters of this mind, and that Is why I am submitting this suggestion for your consideration. Respectfully yours.
