Knickerbocker'V: / / # A f y ynv Your l e t t e r o f March 9, f i l e 9215-355, r e la t iv e to wood stave pipe lin e in sid e o f shop fence at Las Vegas: In lin e with our recen t conversation I am proceeding with the p rep aratio n o f Form 30 covering in s t a lla t io n o f concrete s e t t lin g tank at w e ll, new 24" wood stave p ip e, and renewal o f approxim ately 1600 fe e t of v i t r i f i e d clay pipe with wood stave pipe, whieh p ro je c t, however, does not contemplate the renewal o f any pipe lin e in sid e of shop fence, which to me, appears to he s o le ly a maintenance m atter. D iv isio n E n g in ee r's o f f ic e yesterday c a lle d th is matter to my a tte n tio n and sta te d it was Mr. B ige lo w ’ s recommendation that approxim ately 300 fe e t o f th is p ip e, which is leak in g badly, be re ­newed with cast iro n p ip e, which would carry a c a p ita l expenditure charge, and which you may wish to co n sid er. However, i f immediate re p a irs a re necessary, t h is p o rtio n should be re p a ire d tem porarily, and in the event i t i s decided to renew with c a s t -ir o n pine, th is fe a tu re can be handled in the Form 30 we are preparin g fo r other renewals and new work, as mentioned above. While I see no p a r t ic u la r advantage in renewing with cast iro n p ip e ,y e t, I am informed by D iv is io n fo rc e s , that renewing with cast iro n pipe w i l l elim in ate the tapping promiscuously o f th is pipe lin e w ith in the shop grounds, which has been done in the p a st, and which is the cause o f the g re a te r part o f these le a k s . cc-M r.H .A .W illiam s, Mr.W .B.Bracken.
