Los Angeles, February 21, 1950 1-7554 Mr. D, F. Wenger11 In connection with the program for conservation of water at Las Vegas, the LVL&WCo. in cooperation with the City has made a survey of all water usage to determine If city ordinance prohibiting water wastage is being complied with# The survey of Railroad Company facilities, duplicate copies of which are attached, indicates that only a very small percentage of the coolers installed in Railroad Company facilities are equipped with recapture pumps as required by the city ordinance, which provides, in part, as follows: HUsing water from any water system belonging to any public utility for the purpose of cooling any refrigerator, refrigerating machine, ice plant, ice machine, cooler, cooling plant, cooling system, air-conditioning machine or apparatus, engine or motor, where such water, after being so used, is permitted to flow into a sewer or cesspool or onto the ground; provided, however, that the use of water for such cooling purposes is not prohibited where, after being so used, it is collected, recooled and reused, and is not permitted to flow into a sewer, cesspool or onto the groundj* The City authorities have been very cooperative with the Water Company in an endeavor to conserve water, and I think It highly desirable that the Railroad Company facilities be equipped with recapture devices as required by the ordinance at the earliest date possible. Will appreciate your cooperation. Wm, Reinhardt
