Hr* Mb * aelnh&rdt: Las Vegas - August 10, lf§# W 2 » b ( @0 Hr* E. 1. Bennett The State Engineer's reprss enta tive, Harry Jameson, Water Supervisor for the Las Vegas Valley, called an me today in connection with the’ water situation here* Mr. Smith, who is also a member of the Public Service Commission, is very much concerned over the w&ter situation and -asked Mr. d&meson to contact the fet r Gompany before attending a conference at at Carson City tomorrow with State Engineer Smith and M e Assistant, Hugh Sfa&aberger*----- £n our conversation, Mr* J&mmcm stated an application for one-imlf second foot had been made by Jack Wollenzela to drill a well Just below our Ho-XO, for the purpose of irrigating 50 acres of alfalfa* They were not disposed to favorably consider M s application because of the possible effect it may have on our wells which supply the city* Be brought up the subject of filing a protest, but I advised M s we had attempted to conserve the artesian supply by filing a general pretest against additional drilling in the vicinity of our holdings, prior to the K&r; that we had followed this with a specific protest, based on the contention that the underground channel was already overtaxed, but had withdrawn the protest when we filed an application for a new well of our own* Be stated the Water Law had since been amended, and they now proposed to restrict drilling of additional wells in our vicinity to those intended for domestic use in the city. t inquired what the attitude of the State Engineer would be toward application for additional wells by the Onion Pacific, and he stated their office would be very reedptive to such application. Is this connection, it was M s judgment that if additional wells were drilled we would be more successful around the 690 ft level than In the-upper or #00 ft zone* Be thought such additional wells slight have some effect, probably up to 10 percent, on our existing wells, but that w© would unquestionably obtain more water in the aggregate*
