REVIEW-JOURNAL 7/20/50 WENDELL BUNKER - J6 T o By Bunker Friday The serious water shortage in Las Vegas is sehedt&ed. to be aired at tomorrow’s meeting of the city commission and Commissioner Wendell Bunker invited interested water us'eriyfco be^r esent sand join in the discussion. Bunker- said today ;he was “tired acting as a front for the water company” in trying to explain away the water: shortage, and that he Would"have “plenty to say for the record” at tomorrow’s meeting concerning the situation. “The poeple of Las Vegas are not going .to listen to any more promises. That’s all they’ve been getting — promises but very little water,” Bunker declared. “It’s absolutely tragic the way lawns are going to ruin this summer because there isn’t enough water to go around and because of the ridiculous restrictions put on use,” he continued. “We wete promised last summer this wouldn’t happen again! It’s worse this year than in 1949, and it will be worse next year if we don’t do something about it. Unless we’re assured a workable plan will be put into effect which will relieve- the situation by next year, I’m in favor of the city taking over the utility and I’m deadly serious. r< n1p i .el ?iy)i 1?riIi)| 1I “The city’s getting the blame for all .this because we’re the ones who are passing the ordinances and sending out our policemen to harass pepole who only > are desperately trying to save the lawns they’ve spent ?years working; on. I think the blame should be placed where it belongs. The water company has , fallen down on the job tra-i gically.” Bunker said he hoped the city could work out a plan for changing the, hours of * watering, to make them more workable and satisfactory, and would propose a motion to carry out that program. The meeting will be held in the city commissioner chambers in the city hall starting at 3 o’ clock and Bunker said-the public would be welcome’ to 'attend. •o
