Description

The owner of Railroad Pass Casino wanted water delivered to his casino, and wanted to build a flume next to the main tracks rather than build a spur. Fish was disinclined to sell any water where the only likely business was the freighting of water.

Las Vegas, Nevada. May 7th, 1940. Messrs. W. R. Bracken, J. H. Davis, A Mr. Everett Thomas, 317 North 7th Street, Las Vegas, called on me representing that he is the owner or operator of the Casino at Railroad Pass and is making inquiries as to the possibility of buying water from the railroad company at Las Vegas, having it hauled to him there. He indicated that he is expanding his activities there into an Auto Court and would probably require about two cars of water per month. Mr. Thomas had in mind that pos- sibly instead of asking him to build a spur, we would permit him to install his unloading trough at the main line and unload the water while the local crew was at Boulder City picking up the empty on return. I am reasonably certain that a somewhat similar request has been made in previous years, if not by Mr. Thomas, by some former operator. I would appreciate advice from Mr. Bracken as to policy of the company in selling water to people outside Las Vegas where there is no potential revenue in sight for the railroad company other than the freight on the water. I gave Mr. Thomas no encouragement whatever, but told him his re- quest would be given consideration and we would let him know. Even if it is decided to sell him water, am not favorably disposed to recommending an unloading flume on the main line at Railroad Pass. GEO. C. FISH
