Educator and retired Lieutenant Commander John Myron Partridge was born on March 1, 1909 in Miles City, Montana. He attended Adrian College in Adrian, Michigan and the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor before enlisting in the Naval Reserve in 1944. Partridge worked as a guidance counselor and organized Naval Reserve Units in Miles City, Montana. His early experience in working with young people guided his decision to enter the profession of education. He began taking classes at the University of Nevada, Reno in 1951 for vocational training and continued, intermittently, until 1964. He worked for the Clark County School District as a vocational guidance counselor and sports referee for the local schools in Las Vegas, Nevada until the early 1980s.
