Nakanishi, Gene Noboru, 1960-

Jazz musician and restaurateur Gene Nakanishi is a second-generation native-born Las Vegan. In the 1920s, Gene's paternal grandfather worked on the Union Pacific railroad between what is now Zyzzx, California, and Las Vegas. After his oldest child died from lack of available medical care, the elder Nakanishi moved his family to Las Vegas and commuted to his work site. During WWII, when Gene's father was 17, the Nakanishi family was interned at the Heart Mountain War Relocation Center, near Cody, Wyoming.

Saltman, Michael, 1942-

Michael Saltman was born October 09, 1942 and raised in Flint, Michigan. Saltman earned his bachelor's degree from Michigan State University in 1964 and his Juris Doctor from Wayne State University Law School in 1967. From 1968 to 1975, he was an attorney in London, England and Geneva, Switzerland, and Director of International Operations at Shareholders Capital Corporation in Munich, Bavaria.

Greenberg, Gene

In 1976, Gene Greenberg decided to accept a job transfer with Donrey Media Group and relocated from Laredo, Texas to Las Vegas. Las Vegas was comfortable fit and for the next 30 years, he primarily worked in television ad sales. He rose to become executive vice president and general manager of KVBC-TV.

Significant to Gene’s ties to Las Vegas have been his ties to the Jewish community including his active involvement with Young Leadership, Jewish Federation, and Temple Beth Sholom.

Jackie Boiman (née Brooks) was born July 21, 1946 in Brooklyn, New York and raised in Levittown, New York. Her religious connection began in the Levittown Jewish Center Sunday School and under the close relationship she had with her grandmother, who kept kosher and inspired her to do so.

Casey, Linda S., 1951-

Linda Schneider married Steven Casey in 1975 in Linda’s home town of Flossmoor, Illinois. After their marriage they moved to a house Steve owned near the Palace Station, on El Mirador Street in the Ward 1 section of Las Vegas. Within six months, however, Linda was looking for another house. A 1973 Art History graduate of Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa, Linda did corporate design work for Southwest Gas Company. She further engaged her talent when she designed and built custom houses as an owner/builder from 1979 through 1987.

Scalley, Priscilla

Priscilla Scalley was born November 4, 1941 and was raised in Boston, Massachusetts. She married her husband, Joseph, on December 26, 1964. The Scalleys arrived in Las Vegas, Nevada in 1972 with their two young daughters. The couple took out two mortgages to buy their house in the Rancho Nevada Estates section of Ward 1. As a young mother, Scalley joined the West Charleston Elementary School Parent Teacher Association and eventually became president.

Anderson Toland, Helen , 1926-

Helen Anderson was born Helen Eileen Herndon on May 03, 1926 in Marceline, Missouri. She attended the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana and received her Master’s degree in speech corrections/therapy from the University of Southern California. In the early 1960s, a romance with Las Vegas, Nevada civil rights worker Jim Anderson budded in Los Angeles, California at the National Association for Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) meetings. In 1964, they got married and she moved to Las Vegas.

Robert Frank List is a former governor of Nevada from 1978 to 1983. He was born September 1, 1936 in California to Frank Way List and his wife. He attended Utah State University for his undergraduate degree, and the Hastings College of Law at the University of California for his law degree.
