Isaacson, Bruce

Bruce Isaacson was born in 1956 in Castro Valley, California and spent his childhood in Oakland, California. Isaacson became the first poet laureate of Clark County (Nevada) in June 2015. He was born in Castro Valley, California to Betty Griffin and Bernard Isaacson, and spent his childhood in Oakland. He received his bachelor’s degree from Claremont McKenna College with majors in economics as well as drama, and continued studying for his Masters of Business Administration at Dartmouth College.

Lewis, Leo, 1930-2001

Leo Lewis was born August 24, 1930 in Long Island, New York. He held many positions in various Las Vegas, Nevada hotels and casinos, including the general manager of the Barbary Coast Hotel and Casino and a casino executive in Binion's Horseshoe Club. He retired in 1989, and later taught casino management in University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). He assisted in the development of the College of Hotel Administration (William F. Harrah College of Hospitality) at UNLV. He died July 17, 2001.

History of Blue Diamond Village in Nevada Oral History Project

This is the history of Blue Diamond Village. Blue Diamond is located 26 miles southwest of Las Vegas. The village, originally known as Cottonwood Springs, changed its name when the Blue Diamond Company took ownership of the Gypsum mine and built corporate housing for the workers in the early '20s. Near the base of the Red Rock canyon, Blue Diamond Village was originally a stop on the Old Spanish Trail for traders from Santa Fe, N.M., to California between 1830 and 1848, according to the history committee's findings.

Wiener, Valerie (1948 October 30-)

Valerie Wiener is a former Democratic Nevada State Senator who represented Clark County District 3 from 1996 to 2012. Born in Las Vegas, Nevada in 1948, she is the daughter of prominent local attorney Louis Wiener, Jr. After Valerie Wiener graduated from Las Vegas High School, she earned bachelor's and master's degrees in journalism from the University of Missouri and a master's in contemporary literature from the University of Illinois before attending the McGeorge School of Law at the University of the Pacific.

Galatz, Elaine B.

Elaine Galatz was born September 1, 1939 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and studied English at the University of Wisconsin. In 1961, she married Neil Galatz and moved to Arizona. After attending the University of Arizona and Arizona State University for graduate studies and her teaching certificate, Galatz moved to Las Vegas, Nevada and taught at J.E. Manch Elementary. When her husband opened his own law firm in the mid-1960s, she served as the office manager and bookkeeper.
