Giles, Reva

Reva Giles grew up in the little town of New Carlisle, Indiana and was one of twelve children. Her mother stayed home with the children while her father worked for Studebaker, a large automobile manufacturer. Right after high school, Giles moved to Redland, California, to live with a sister, working first at an ice cream shop and then a bank.

Brooks, Richard H. (1926-2011)

Archaeologist Richard Howard Brooks was born in Big Pine, California on July 5, 1926. He joined the Navy at age 15 and began his college education after his military service. Brooks earned a PhD in archaeology from the University of Colorado, Boulder. He married Sheilagh Thompson in 1951 and the couple had two daughters, Kathleen and Carolyn.

Brewer, Andrew

Andrew "Andy" Brewer was born in and went to high school in La Grange, Georgia. Brewer joined the military and discusses his attempts to get a job after his release, and his experiences in New York City. He shares that after working in a factory, running a driving school, and working as a porter, he ended up as a bus driver for 21 years. After his wife passed away in 1999, Andy was searching for somewhere to retire. He tried the South because his daughters were there, and he lived for a short time in Durham, North Carolina.

Blanchard, Lucius, 1942-

Lucius Blanchard grew up in Ahoskie, North Carolina, and attended the University of North Carolina Medical School at Chapel Hill. After acquiring his medical degree, he joined the military for two years and upon leaving became chief resident for the University of Louisville. While there, he took dermatology training and cancer surgery training in the University of Wisconsin allowing him to specialize in skin cancer surgery.

Barth, Delbert S.

Delbert Sylvester Barth was born on July 16, 1925, in Lawrenceburg, Indiana. Delbert married R. Lucille Barth on July 10, 1946, and they had four children: Delbert II, Christopher, Deborah, and Diana.

Barth retired from his position as Rear Admiral at the Nevada Test Site but remained at the United States Public Health Service and the Test Manager’s Advisory Panel.

Barth was director of the United States Environmental Protection Agency’s National Environmental Research Center in Las Vegas.

DiTondo, Michelle, 1967-

Michelle DiTondo talks about her parent's experiences living in Osaka, Japan during the war. Father died after the war from tuberculosis. Her mother worked as a seamstress/tailor on the Air force base at the NCO club where she met Michelle's father. Michelle had moved from Tucson to Okinawa and then to Nellis in 1972. She would spend most of her childhood in North Las Vegas for more than 30 years. She speaks on her experience being in an air force family and moving from base to base as well as her fond memories of Las Vegas before casinos were built.

Wagner, Max, 1901-1975

Mexican-American actor, Maxwell Sergius Wagner was most known for starring in most of Preston Sturges' films. Wagner was one of five children born to William Wallace Wagner and Edith Gilfillan in Torreon, Mexico on November 28, 1901. After his father died in the Mexican Revolution, the Wagner family moved to Salinas, California. He followed three of his brothers to Hollywood, California to work in the film industry.

Schwartz, Stanley

Schwartz was born on May 13, 1926 in Cheyenne, Wyoming. He attended Colorado Military School in Denver, Colorado and the University of Southern California. He left the university without a degree and went into the merchant tailoring business in Los Angeles, California. After that business went bankrupt, he moved to Las Vegas, Nevada with his brother, Seymour Schwartz, around 1951 and started Schwartz Brothers Clothing.
