Aganon, Maila, 1975-

Born and raised in the Philippines, Maila Aganon emigrated with her parents in 1992, after she completed her first semester of college. She describes as "typical" her youth as the youngest child (with brothers 5 and 7 years older) of a teacher who worked in another village and a father who worked out of the country. Although independent, she was part of a tightly knit village. The household spoke three languages: her mother's dialect, her father's dialect, and Tagalog.

Mahofski, Walter

Walter Mahofski, known professoionally as Walter Cartier, was a professional dancer who served as the company manager for the Bal du Moulin Rouge show at the Las Vegas Hilton in Las Vegas, Nevada. Cartier started out his dancing career as a student of Andrea and Maurice Sabatier who ran the Andrea School of Dance in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Lopez Castillo, Martin

Martin Lopez-Castillo was born in the small town of La Perla, Cuautitlán Izcalli in the State of Mexico. He grew up in a large Catholic family and was taught the meaning of hard work from a young age. Competitive by nature, he excelled in academics and always understood the importance of receiving an education. He left his hometown, immigrating to Phoenix, Arizona, and finally reached Colorado, where he worked as a cook for a Village Inn.

African Americans in Las Vegas: a Collaborative Oral History Project

"A true community project combining the efforts of community advisors, regional cultural heritage repositories, and city and county agencies, this project collected oral histories as well as photographs, documents, and manuscripts. Community members includes Hannah Brown, Sonya Horsford, Jarmilla McMillan-Arnold, Courtney Mooney, Todd Robinson, Carrie Sampson, and Brenda Williams.

Segerblom, Gene

Genevieve "Gene" Segerblom contributed in a multitude of ways to her home of more than fifty years--Boulder City, Nevada. She was a third-generation Nevadan and was born in Ruby Valley, Nevada in 1918. Gene and her future husband Clifford moved from Reno where they both had attended the University of Nevada, Reno to Boulder City in 1940. After they came back from Panama in 1948 where Clifford had a photography assignment, she ran a child care center and wrote freelance articles about the Nevada landscape with her husband providing the photographs.
