Abstract

The J. T. McWilliams Photograph Collection contains photographs and postcards from Nevada and Southern California from approximately 1900 to 1970. The materials include postcards depicting Las Vegas, Nevada casinos such as El Rancho Vegas and the Golden Nugget Gambling Hall. The materials also include postcards depicting towns and scenes in Nevada such as Carson City, Rhyolite, Red Rock Canyon, and covered wagons traveling to Las Vegas. Lastly, the materials contain several photographs of the McWilliams family, possibly while they were living in what is now Las Vegas, Nevada.

Abstract

Oral history interview with Dr. Carolyn Reedom conducted by Kristina Knebl on November 22, 2006 for the Public School Principalship Oral History Project. In this interview, Dr. Reedom reflects upon her 28 years as a principal in Nevada’s Clark County School District (CCSD). She discusses the process by which she became an elementary school principal, and compares it with when she served as a high school principal. She discusses her approach to school administration, and how her experience as a 27-year old principal of Red Rock Elementary School shaped her career. She also describes her experience with school desegregation, and explains why she believes it was desegregation instead of integration.

Real to Reel Documentary Series Records

Abstract

The Real to Reel Documentary Series Records (approximately 1981-1991) consists mainly of production files used for the Real to Reel documentary series which aired on KLVX which was Las Vegas, Nevada's local PBS station in the 1980s. The documentary series was written and produced by journalist Claudia Collins. Episodes focused on local issues and general interest stories relevant to the Las Vegas community such as the National Finals Rodeo, Red Rock Canyon, women stationed at Nellis Air Force Base, and the Clark County Wetlands Park. The collection includes production files for episodes including scripts, research notes, correspondence, and newspaper clippings. Also included are digital copies of select Real to Reel episodes.
