Description
The view of the small town of Searchlight, Nevada. Formed in 1897, Searchlight is an old boomtown that was made popular when George Frederick Colton discovered gold at the location where the town is now built. Unnamed buildings cluster together in the center of the postcard while rocky terrain decorated with small shrubs and mines surround the city's outskirts. Transcribed onto the bottom of the postcard: "Searchlight, Nevada; Duplex Mine In Foreground." The Frasher's Foto logo is also printed onto the bottom right corner.

Oral history interview with Robert B. Griffith conducted by Bernard Timberg on March 06, 1974 for the UNLV University Libraries Oral History Collection. In this interview, Griffith talks about living in Las Vegas, Nevada since the early 1900s. He describes the recreational activities he would participate in, the Huntridge Theater, desegregation, and the development of hotels and casinos on the Strip.

Sadie and Hampton George Papers

Abstract

The Sadie and Hampton George Papers (1874-1948) consist primarily of the incoming and outgoing correspondence of Sadie Kiel George and her husband, Hampton George, regarding proposed land and mineral rights sales. The collection also includes some personal correspondence, and two of the most significant letters in the collection deal with the deaths of brothers William and Edward Kiel, Sadie's uncles, who were found dead at the Kiel Ranch in October 1900. Also included in the collection are receipts, cancelled checks, tax notices, mining claims, and land deeds.
