Description
On a wooden stage decorated with a platform and a red, yellow, orange, and blue backdrop, entertainers perform the opening number, Act 1: "Las Vegas U.S.A. Today," of the show Pzazz! 70 staged by Donn Arden at the Desert Inn Hotel, Las Vegas. Posed across the stage are both female and male performers dressed in a Western fashion. The women, dressed like cowgirls, are clothed in sparkling, white two-piece costumes complete with white, rhinestone-studded cowgirl hats and either a full pair of glittering fringe chaps, a half pair of flared chaps, white belts, or arm cuffs. Dressed like cowboys, the male performers are wearing white pants with white bandanas tied around their necks, and either have white jackets adorned with rhinestones on or similarly decorated wrist cuffs.

Slides collected by the Culinary Workers Union Local 226 depict Las Vegas and Clark County during the 1950s and the 1960s. Individual photographs show the Strip, downtown Las Vegas, Boulder City, Lake Mead, the Hoover Dam, and individual hotels (including the Flamingo, Tropicana, El Rancho, Dunes, Sahara, Desert Inn, Stardust, Landmark, Thunderbird, Sands, Tallyho, Riviera, Golden Nugget, Mint, Binion's Horsehoe, Pioneer Club, Fremont, and Four Queens). Aerial shots and photographs of buildings under construction, marquees, and interiors are included. There are also photos of showgirls and the Las Vegas Convention Center. Tray 1 of 3. Slides collected by the Culinary Workers Union Local 226 depict Las Vegas during the 1950s and the 1960s. Individual photos show aerial views of the city, construction sites, residential streets, and buildings such as union offices, shopping centers, banks, schools, houses of worship, etc. Other important sites depicted include McCarran Airport, the Las Vegas Convention Center, and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Le Bourget-- The thoroughness with which he planned the flight and carried it through was still with Howard Hughes when the millionaire flyer and his four companions arrived at Le Bourget, after a record smashing flight across the Atlantic. Hughes is shown here, examining the tail of his plane, just after landing, The tail was damaged slightly. After repairs were made, the fliers took off for Moscow."

Typed onto a piece of paper attached onto the image: "Police in readiness for arrival of Hughes' plane, Floyd Bennett Airport, N.Y. -- Police lined up in front of a plane at Floyd Bennett Airport, as last-minute preparations were made for the arrival of Howard Hughes and his companions, who were winging over North Central America on the last leg of their epochal Round-The-World flight. By noon a crowd of 6,000 persons had assembled and countless others choked all roads leading to the field as the fliers drew nearer to their goal. Credit Line (ACME) 7/14/38."
