Sign-specific description: Has the words "Sunset Station Hotel Casino" in animated boxed under a setting sun which is framed, the wording lit with incandescent bulbs. The frame has chasers to draw attention and bright neon filling in the sun with neon flashing on and off starting from the middle then spreading out into the rays of the sun with mixed colors of red, white, yellow and orange. The blocks that the casino name sets in, blue neon flash on and off as well like the chasers but glow a bright blue, also framed with chaser bulbs as well. There is also a tv screen under the decorative topper of the sign, then a reader board underneath the tv screen which is internally lit.

Survey - other remarks: In 1998, the casino announced a $45 million expansion to add 20,000 square feet, 11 movie screens, a steakhouse, a food court, meeting rooms and a parking garage. In 2005, it opened a bowling alley called Strike Zone that featured 72 lanes and cost $25 million to build. In 2016, it renovated its tower and upgraded many of its suites and rooms.

Sign details: The building was originally constructed in 1951. Previously to the lounge opening it was Fremont Street Guitars. Andrew and Jennifer Wheatley opened the lounge in 2010 after 30 years of experience together in the industry. This trendy bar has Modern-Industrial Decor, as you can see with their black building with a glass garage door entrance.

Sign-specific description: Right above the entrance is a black canopy, but at night a white neon tube illuminates the perimeter of the canopy. The canopy also showcases their street address 516 in white channeled numbers. Above the canopy there is a beam which acts as a support for their main sign. Their main sign is a black rectangle which is also attached to the building. The sign states Vanguard Lounge in white skeletal neon letters. The word Vanguard is in a thick block-type print letters. Lounge is written in a smaller but similar type-font.

Survey - research notes: Definition of Vanguard is a group of people leading the way in new developments/ideas. This is possibly alluding to their theme of being different than the other bars downtown. Coincidentally there was a dance club in L.A. also called Vanguard, but no connection found between the properties besides their modern dance vibes.

Sign form: Roadside pole sign
Sign-specific description: This pole roadside sign has a simple design. A large black pole supports the other elements for this sign. The top portion of the sign features a plastic, backlit sign reading "La Palm" in a black, serif text. Underneath the "lm" of the "La Palm" sign is a series of open channel letters spelling out "MOTEL" against a faded teal background. This portion of the sign is also a thin, rectangular shape allowing for an open space between the "MOTEL" of the sign and the pole that supports it. Underneath the "L" of the "MOTEL" is the bottom portion of the sign that is attached to the pole. This portion of the sign features a plastic, backlit sign reading "DAILY WEEKLY CABLE TV POOL KITCHENETTES LAUNDROMAT" in bold red letters against a white background. Under this is the word "VACANCY" painted in bold white text. Neon tubes spell out "NO" and outline "VACANCY." Along the outer edge of this sign facing Fremont, the sign is painted a pale yellow with incandescent light bulbs lining this section.

Sign details: This building was originally constructed in 2001 as a retail store center. This location currently holds a Denny's, a vintage toy store, the Telemundo station office and an international food market. This location also held a movie theater until 2009.
Sign condition: 4.5- Sign still in relatively new looking condition
Sign form: Entrance sign
Sign-specific description: Above the main entrance way into the mall there are the letter "NEONOPOLIS" in plastic back lit signs. Each letter has a lime green border with white strip and then purple for the main color of the block letters. The letter "O" in "polis" is actually an orbit shape that is orange and purple to double as the "O". Portions of the building have neon tubes, some illuminating blue and others are purple, green, red and yellow. There are also different colored shapes of neon spread throughout the building such as yellow triangle as well as orbits showcasing red and yellow neon tubing. Many of the companies in this location have their own signs as well.
