Description
Children stand and play outside the Fifth Street Grammar School in Las Vegas. The school building is the center building in the photo. Built in 1910-1911 in the Mission architecture style, it housed Las Vegas' combined grammar and high schools until 1929, when Las Vegas High School was built. Some of the children are standing in a yard by what appears to be a volleyball or badminton net. Other children are seen walking towards the school building. All of the boys are wearing caps. Description
The image was taken within the San Pedro, Los Angeles and Salt Lake Railroad's rail yard. In the center of the photograph is a large crowd of people who have just arrived. To the left is passenger cars, to the right freight cars, in the background center is the first depot in Las Vegas, a railroad car. Photographer is believed to have been Ed Von Tobel, Sr. The San Pedro, Los Angeles and Salt Lake Railroad offered a special rate of sixteen dollars to those coming in for the auction of lots within Clark's Las Vegas Townsite. If an individual purchased property, the amount of the ticket would be refunded.

Description
Undated photograph, approximate date 1908. A group of men, accompanied by two boys standing in front of a wooden hotel. Two signs pictured state, "For County Division" and "Los [sic] Vegas Democratic Delegation for County Division." The Lincoln County Division Club was formed in Las Vegas in July 1908 to convince the state government to separate the Las Vegas area from Lincoln County and make Las Vegas the new county seat. Lincoln County covered the entire southeastern portion of Nevada at this time and government administration was conducted from Pioche. Petitions for county division had started as early as 1905. Clark County was eventually founded on July 1, 1909.
