Description

From the Nye County, Nevada Photograph Collection (PH-00221) -- Series VII. Other areas in Nye County -- Subseries VII.F. Lowe Family. The boarding house constructed by R.J. "Dad" Fairbanks and his wife, Celestia, at Shoshone, California, shortly after their founding of the community in 1910. The woman at left is Celestia Fairbanks; next to her is her husband, "Dad"; the man to the left of the dog is Shorty Harris; next to him is Herman Jones; the third man down from Herman is Charlie Brown, in white shirt and dark pants. Sitting on post at far right is man the world would later know as Sir Harry Oakes. Photo Taken about 1915. (More info behind photo).

Abstract

The Desert Inn Country Club Newsletter Collection (approximately 1970-1979) contains official newsletters from the Desert Inn Country Club in Las Vegas, Nevada, as well as photographs used to create the newsletters. The photographs depict members participating in events and tournaments, and the newsletters consist mostly of black-and-white photographs that highlight club parties and tournament champions.

The Yell Negatives (approximately 1971-1974) contain photographic negatives from various events held at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) that were used for the student newspaper, The Yell (which is now known as The Scarlet & Gray Free Press). Events documented include UNLV football games and political events hosted at UNLV's campus featuring candidates including as Jim Bilbray, David Towell, and Sargent Shriver.

The Frederic Apcar Collection on the Casino de Paris Show (approximately 1963-1992) contains Casino de Paris programs, tent cards, and promotional information. There are also three Dunes Magazine: A Guide to What's Happening NOW that feature Casino de Paris on the cover. Apcar was the producer and director of the show which appeared exclusively at the Dunes Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada.
