Transcript of interview with Myoung-ja Lee Kwon by Claytee White, September 4, 2004
Myoung-ja Lee Kwon began her life on the grounds of the Kyongbok Palace in Korea. In a country where education is valued, her father's occupation as a university professor meant that the family was highly honored, thus this palatial space allowed them live in a state of prosperity. But war changed these circumstances and in this interview Kwon vividly explains the family's evolution. In 1965, after graduation from Seoul National University she married and a year later, moved to the United State of America where she earned a Master's degree in Library Science in Provo, Utah. Her first professional position was at the University of Nevada Las Vegas as a cataloguer and after many promotions, became interim dean of UNLV Libraries. In 2001, she took the job as Dean of Libraries at California State East Bay Library, retiring in 2008. Interview with Dr. Angela Clarke conducted by Lisa Gioia-Acres on October 3, 2008. A native of Baltimore, Maryland, Clarke spent a great deal of time reading medical texts and started working at Social Security by the age of fourteen. Following high school, she joined the women's Air Force and attended Morgan State College on the GI Bill. Clarke recalls instances of racism and the efforts she personally made to mitigate or change circumstances for blacks. Among her many awards, she was given a plaque for integrating Air Force swimming pools. Later accepted at University of Maryland, her first year's tuition was paid by the Jessie Smith Noyes Foundation. Clarke lived and practiced medicine in Beverly Hills until 1976, when a friend suggested that she was needed in Las Vegas as a board-certified family practitioner.

Oral history interview with Yvanna Cancela conducted by Monserrath Hernández and Barbara Tabach on February 27, 2020 for the Latinx Voices of Southern Nevada Oral History Project. Yvanna Cancela, Nevada State Senator, discusses her personal history growing up in Miami, Florida and her studies at Northwestern University. She talks of working for Senator Harry Reid's campaign in Las Vegas, which led to her organizing efforts for the Culinary Workers Union Local 226. Yvanna recalls being appointed to the Nevada State Senate in 2016 as the first female state senate majority. In addition to fulfilling her duties as the Co-Majority Whip, she worked on the Joe Biden campaign and is the Executive Director of the Citizenship Project. After this interview was conducted, Yvanna received her Juris Doctorate from the William S. Boyd School of Law at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Subjects discussed include: Miami, Florida; Nevada State Senate; The Citizenship Project.
