Israeli American Council (Las Vegas, Nev.)

The mission of the Israeli American Council (IAC) of Las Vegas is to support the local Israeli-American community and "to strengthen the Jewish and Israeli identity of the next generation, engage in outreach to the Jewish-American community at large, and reinforce support for Israel." IAC has programs to teach children, college students, and adults about Israeli language and culture. IAC also provides volunteer opportunities and holds a festival and other events centered on Israeli culture and Jewish holidays.

Gambarana, Peggie Jean, 1927-1986

Peggie Jean Gambarana was born in 1927 to Robert J. Kaltenborn and his wife. She worked as a real estate developer in Las Vegas, Nevada, and married Edgar Gambarana. She died in 1986 and donated her estate of $1.5 million dollars to the University of Nevada, Las Vegas James R. Dickinson Library.

Zender, Bill

Bill (William Allen) Zender was born April 02, 1955 in Chicago, Illinois and spent his formative years in Las Vegas, Nevada. He earned a bachelor's degree in hotel administration from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in 1976. During his career, he worked at several casions in various positions, including blackjack dealer, pit boss, and general manger. He worked in the Enforcement Division of the Nevada Gaming Control Board and taught college courses on gaming management. He owned the business Bill Zender and Associates LLC.

Leonard, Cheryl

Cheryl Leonard was born October 31, 1944 and lived briefly in Sun Valley, California before moving to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1945. After attending local elementary and middle schools, she started at Rancho High School during the day, and worked at the Huntridge Theater in the evenings and during the summer.

Drohobyczar, Martha

Martha Drohobyczar was born on November 21, 1951 and grew up in Illinois, three generations removed from slavery. Even though her first college degree was in government and national relations, Drohobyczar found an accelerated nursing program at St. Louis University in 1975 and graduated a year later with a bachelor’s in nursing.

Hall, Ashley, 1943-

Ashley Hall was born April 3, 1943 in Caliente, Nevada. After high school, he worked for the Union Pacific Railroad at the Nevada Test Site as a cashier and as a signalman. He later attended Brigham Young University and the University of Nevada, Reno. After college, Hall served the City of Las Vegas, Nevada as City Manager. He was instrumental in the initial development of Summerlin, Nevada. After retiring from local politics, he remained active as the President of the Old Spanish Trail Association and as the United States Army Reserve Ambassador.

Walsh, Marty, 1957-

Marty Walsh was born in Detroit, Michigan in 1957 and grew up as the middle child of two sisters. They moved to Louisville, Kentucky when Walsh was 13. After graduating from high school, she moved to Cincinnati to attend college at the Art Academy of Cincinnati. Walsh visited almost every state in the United States before moving to Massachusetts, where she met and married her husband. In 1989, they sold their house and backpacked around Europe until they moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1998. The Walsh family bought a home in the John S.

Weart, Wendell D.

Wendell D. Weart was born on September 24, 1932, in Brandon, Iowa. Wendell had three children from his first marriage: Brian, Kathleen, and Craig. Wendell married his second wife Leanne on August 8, 1981, and they had three children: Heather, Scott, and Randy.

Weart earned a bachelor of arts degree in geology and a bachelor of arts degree in math (1953) from Cornell College in Iowa. Weart obtained his doctor of philosophy degree in geophysics (1961) from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Kaufman, Perry Bruce, 1942-

Perry Kaufman was born in Casper, Wyoming on September 13, 1942. He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Missouri in 1966. He served in the US Army in Vietnam in 1966 to 1967. He earned his doctorate in history from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1974. He taught history at Burlington County College in Pemberton, New Jersey for several years.
