Abstract

The Tom Hribar Collection of Nevada Southern University Memorabilia (1965-1967) is comprised of newspaper clippings, programs, and publications primarily created by the Confederated Students of Nevada Southern (CSNS) that were collected by Tom Hribar, the former student body president of Nevada Southern University (NSU). Publications include student handbooks and directories. Also included are copies of publications such as Beau's Bit's, the student handbook; Polis; published by the Students for Political Action; and Matrix, an arts and literature magazine. The collection also includes materials such as correspondence and newspaper clippings related to an event where Hribar stole the Fremont Cannon trophy from the University of Nevada, Reno's campus as part of a practical joke in 1966.

Oral history interview with Dr. Richard V. Wyman conducted by David Emerson on February 27, 2006 for the UNLV @ 50 Oral History Project. Wyman discusses construction of Marshmallow Tunnel at the Nevada Test Site, working on Exchequer Tunnel for Sunshine Mine in Idaho, and a tunnel in Merced, California. Wyman details his career at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). He then discusses moving into a new building and creating a PhD program for engineering. He also discusses the splitting up of the old College of Science, Math, and Engineering into separate disciplines, and watching the number of graduates increase.

Transcript of interview with June and Lewis Whitly by Claytee D. White on November 2, 2007. June and Lewis Whitley moved to Las Vegas as newlyweds in 1958. June worked as a maid and then found a position with Centel Telephone and was on the Board of the Clark County Community College. Lewis worked at Test Site as a cook and later for the Clark County Fire Department.

Abstract

Oral history interview with Yeon-Kyung (Mar) Chung conducted by Emilee Caivin on November 10, 2021 for Reflections: The Las Vegas Asian American and Pacific Islander Oral History Project.

In this interview, Yeon-Kyung (Mar) Chung talks about her upbringing in Korea and her educational history, studying Spanish abroad in Spain and Italy before earning her graduate degree in Latin American Studies from the University of Texas, Austin. Mar Chung talks about her move to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1999 to enroll at the College of Southern Nevada and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas to pursue pharmaceutical studies like her parents. She talks about her experience as a single mother, her path to citizenship in the United States, and the Las Vegas Asian American community. Mar Chung also reflects on differences between how she was raised compared to the upbringing of her two children.

Abstract

Oral history interview with Sarah Bartlett conducted by Sydney Bartlett on December 10, 2022 for the Reflections: the Las Vegas Asian American and Pacific Islander Oral History Project. In this interview, Sarah recalls immigrating from Quezon City, Philippines as a young woman to Toronto, Canada. She recalls her childhood being full of rich cultural traditions, lots of family bonding time, and working to help support her family. Despite not having a college education, she secured a career as a title officer at Chicago Title, a position which she has held for twenty-five years. Sarah eventually met her husband, who shared a Filipino ancestry, and moved from Canada to Las Vegas, Nevada. Here they built their own life together, and despite hardships throughout her life, Sarah cherishes the unique experiences she has had living in Las Vegas.
