Description
A black and white image of Secretary of the Interior, Ray Lyman Wilbur driving the last spike into the railroad from Las Vegas to the site of the Hoover Dam, signaling the beginning of construction. Also in the photograph are the following: Congressman William Eaton, of Colorado; Senator Key Pittman, Nevada; and Senator Samuel Shortridge. The celebration took place either at Boulder Junction (south of Las Vegas) or in Boulder City.

Stone, Tia Coward, 1996-

Tia Stone organized several protests and talks about the organizing steps involved in the rally and march from the Boulevard Mall to the Convention Center on Donald Trump's 74th birthday - June 14, 2020. The Boulevard Mall is at 3528 S. Maryland Parkway and the walk to the Convention Center at 3150 Paradise is 1.4 miles, an easy walk on most days. The organized crowd of approximately 800 people required more time than usual.

Peterson, Houghton

Houghton “Hoot” Peterson grew up in a small town called Virginia, Minnesota and played the trombone in his high school band. That led him to become a member of the highly regarded United States Air Force jazz band called Airmen of Note after enlistment. During a short tour at Nellis Air Force base, Peterson decided that the Las Vegas, Nevada entertainment scene might have career opportunities for him.

A picture postcard with photographs with the captions "Badger hole;" "Electric Gold Mines, Weepah, Nevada;" "Crowd looking at rich strike;" "Town of Weepah, Nevada where rich gold strike was made;" "Frank Horton, Geo. Wingfield;" "The rich strike;" "Traynor and Horton, boys who found the gold." Leonard Traynor and Frank Horton, Jr., found gold ore in Weepah, Nevada in early spring 1927; George Wingfield was a prominent banker and miner in Nevada in the early decades of the twentieth century. The "badger hole" was where Traynor and Horton reportedly made their first gold strike.
