Description

Frontier Strike participants march on Las Vegas Boulevard with posters, banners, and flags on April 21, 1992. Secretary-treasurer of the Culinary Workers Union, Jim Arnold, and American civil rights activist, Jesse Jackson, participate in the march. Banners read: "Conquering the Frontier, Culinary Local 226, Bartenders Local 165," "Labor & Rainbow in solidarity, The National Rainbow Coalition, Inc." and "Service Employees International Union, AFL-CIO, CLC." Surrounding the protesting crowd are camera operators, photographers, and police officers. Arrangement note: Series I. Demonstrations, Subseries I.A. Frontier Strike. Description
On a wooden stage decorated with golden stairs and a pink curtain, entertainers perform Act 2: "Hollywood and All That Jazz" of the show Pzazz! 70 staged by Donn Arden at the Desert Inn Hotel, Las Vegas. Male and female performers stand across the stage as a crowd of people watch from below. The female performers are dressed in a varying array of pink and white outfits, sporting everything from sparkling silver two-piece costumes with elaborate gold headdresses to long white or pink ruffled dresses. The men are predominantly wearing glittering pink and gold tuxedoes with matching gold top hats. There are white doves flying above the performers and audience.

Typed onto a piece of paper attached onto the image: "Police in readiness for arrival of Hughes' plane, Floyd Bennett Airport, N.Y. -- Police lined up in front of a plane at Floyd Bennett Airport, as last-minute preparations were made for the arrival of Howard Hughes and his companions, who were winging over North Central America on the last leg of their epochal Round-The-World flight. By noon a crowd of 6,000 persons had assembled and countless others choked all roads leading to the field as the fliers drew nearer to their goal. Credit Line (ACME) 7/14/38."
