Oral history interview with Edmund "Ed" Fleming conducted by Mark Lucas on February 08, 1977 for the Ralph Roske Oral History Project on Early Las Vegas. In this interview Fleming discusses mining practices in Southern Nevada and his teaching experiences in Pahrump, Nevada, Goodsprings, Nevada, and Las Vegas, Nevada. Oral history interview with Brenda Mason conducted by Claytee D. White on December 20, 2006 and December 22, 2006 for the UNLV @ 50 Oral History Project. Mason discusses attending the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in the 1970s. She also recalls serving two terms on the Nevada Board of Regents and being recognized for her efforts in affirmative action. She then discusses her work as a paralegal in the U.S. Attorney's office in San Diego, California.

Oral history interview with Mike Hines conducted by Perry Kaufman on an unknown date in 1975 for the Ralph Roske Oral History Project on Early Las Vegas. In the interview, Hines discusses his early life in Kewanna, Indiana; education, military service, and his eventual move to Las Vegas, Nevada to work as a city attorney. After passing the Nevada Bar Exam in 1950, Hines opened his law office located on the northeast corner Third Street and Fremont Street.

Oral history interview with Ed Price conducted by Chuck Williams on November 01, 2012 for the Friends of Red Rock Canyon in Nevada Oral History Project. Price begins the interview by talking about his family life, childhood, and education on Oliver Ranch near Blue Diamond, Nevada. He then talks about the past of Oliver Ranch, what changed, and what structures the property had before. Lastly, Price speaks about meeting Howard Hughes, exploring the mines, and other caretakers.

Scope and Contents

The digital files subseries (1999-2012) primarily consists of documentation related to issues important to Shelley Berkley's constituents, including the economy, environment, security, education, housing, international relations, and the rights of under-represented communities. Files include supporting documents and talking points used for Congressional speeches, committee work, events, and interviews. Berkley's speeches are captured in textual documents as well as some video recordings of speeches she gave on the floor of Congress and in committees. Files also include correspondence to fellow members of Congress, other government officials, and constituents related to the issues documented in the series.

Oral history interview with Dr. Jean Serum conducted by Barry Bosacker on June 16, 2006 for the Public School Principalship Oral History Project. In this interview, Dr. Serum reflects upon her career as a teacher and administrator with Nevada’s Clark County School District. She discusses the process by which she became a teacher at J. D. Smith Middle School, an administrative assistant, and then a principal. She discusses her approach to education, and provides her opinion on standardized testing practices and charter schools. She also offers advice for individuals pursuing school administration, and describes what she believes makes an effective school administrator.
