Thiriot, Joseph, 1906-2009
Joseph Thiriot was born August 20, 1906 in Provo, Utah to George W. and Elvira Thiriot and was raised with four brothers. His father sold a “typing machine,” a forerunner to the typewriter. Eventually the family moved from Boise, Idaho to a ranch in Pahranagat Valley, Nevada, where the limits of educational opportunities compelled his parents to send him back to Provo to finish his education while living with family there. Gaining a teaching certificate enabled Thiriot to teach in rural Nevada.

Wolff, Elise, 1935-
"Elise Lenora Wolff was born in New York City on July 16, 1935. She attended elementary schools P.S. 28 and P.S. 117, and William H. Taft High School in the Bronx, New York. In August of 1953, Elise enrolled at the University of Bridgeport, Connecticut, and graduated in the Spring of 1957 with a Bachelor of Science degree. Elise embarked upon her teaching career as a third grade teacher in Fairfield, Connecticut, at the Nathan Hale Elementary School in the Fall of 1957. The following year, she moved to Westchester, New York, where she enjoyed a variety of teaching experiences.

Her companion was a woman she did not know and was not related to. All Mayra knew was that this woman would be the friend who would reunite her with her mother. This one life episode is part of the framework of attorney Salinas-Menjivar and her ability to explain the difference between child trafficking and a companion.
