Abstract

Oral history interviews with Sherry Tuliwa McKnight and Tony Terrell conducted by Claytee D. White on October 20, 2016 and December 01, 2016 for the African Americans in Las Vegas: a Collaborative Oral History Project. In the first interview, McKnight and her son Terrell discuss their upbringing and the significance of sports in their lives. Terrell talks about playing football at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), becoming the football team captain, and the role that sports play in the lives of minority youth. In the second interview, Terrell remembers the end of his football career, and becoming an academic advisor at UNLV. Lastly, McKnight talks about obtaining a master’s degree later in her life, and the importance of scholarships for minority students.

Oral history interview with Robert Bolden conducted by Nick Matthews on November 29, 2014 for the African Americans in Las Vegas: a Collaborative Oral History Project. In this interview, Bolden discusses growing up in Las Vegas, Nevada. He talks about his educational experience in Las Vegas, taking the bus to school while living in West Las Vegas, being involved in school sports, and describes the first schools to open on the Westside. Bolden then recalls racial disparities in Las Vegas, African American leaders in his community, and the importance that his education had to him. Lastly, Bolden discusses his career coaching for his track club, Las Vegas Blazin One’z.

Oral history interview with Timothy Harney conducted by Sherrae Chesmore on February 26, 2006 for the Public School Principalship Oral History project. In his interview Harney discusses his experiences as public school teacher and principal in Southern Nevada. He also talks about what a typical day for a principal is like and what the expectation of teachers and principals are.
