Cummings-Schmidt, Nancy, 1938-

Nancy Cummings-Schmidt is a fourth-generation Nevadan who was born in Reno, Nevada and grew up in Las Vegas. She worked as a librarian with the Clark County Library District from 1969 to 1981 before leaving to become a library director in Yuma, Arizona. Cummings-Schmidt is retired as of 2017.

From the Elizabeth Harrington Photograph Collection (PH-00291). Inscriptions with the image read: "Grammar School fire. Las Vegas Volunteer Fire Department in action, headed by Fire Chief Harold Case. The old school built in 1918 as Las Vegas First high School and served as such until 1930, when now Las Vegas High School was built at Seventh and Bridger." "The old school located on the corner of Clark between Fourth and Fifth Street was destroyed by the fire." - E(lizabeth) Harrington.

Stamp on back of photo: "Please credit Art Strieb 955 South Hope St. Los Angeles Michigan 2338 with handwritten number 3635 on the stamp." Included in photo sleeve is a Xerox of the Las Vegas Review Journal article in The Nevadan, "Help Us Write History" Sunday, Sept. 9, 1948.
