Abstract

Oral history interview with Margaret Duncan conducted by Mustafa Adamu on March 15, 1981 for the Ralph Roske Oral History Project on Early Las Vegas. Duncan discusses discrimination on the Las Vegas, Nevada Strip and the first black entertainers on the Strip like Sammy Davis Jr. She also talks about the opening of the Sands Hotel, the Hoover (Boulder) Dam, Howard Hughes, atomic testing, and gambling.

Abstract

The Las Vegas Convention and Visitor Authority Records (1973-2009) contain memorandums written by Rossi Rallenkotter, the Vice President of the Authority's marketing division to Las Vegas hotel sales and travel directors. The memorandums provide monthly visitor statistics. The collection also includes information on riverboat gambling legislation and the capacities of function/meeting rooms in various Las Vegas hotels. Also included are LVCVA marketing plans and bulletins.

A black and white image of a man with a drink sitting on a horse at a Union Pacific Old Timer's Club No. 23 gathering at the Fremont Hotel during Helldorado Days. This photo was taken from a time capsule left in the cornerstone of the Union Pacific Railroad Station in Las Vegas. The capsule was placed there in 1940 and retrieved when the building was demolished around 1970.
