From the UNLV Libraries Single Item Accession Photograph Collection (PH-00171). Postcard with gambling theme: caption- "Send Carlo and Fido at once! Met man who got $1,000.00 because he held a big dog, and a little dog last Night". (copyright 1905) Artist by name of Lederer (Charles Lederer).

The Gem

The Gem was an early Las Vegas saloon and gambling establishment that opened around 1905 on Block 16 in downtown Las Vegas, Nevada. J.W. Horden was the proprietor.

Description
Inside the Stardust Hotel and Casino, there are several card tables and chairs present in the room. On the far wall, there are intricate gold wall-hangings of different card suit shapes. The carpet underneath the tables has a reddish diamond pattern. This color photograph was taken prior to the renovation of the hotel in the mid 1970s.
