Lester Benjamin "Benny" Binion was born on November 20, 1904 near Dallas-Fort Worth, in Texas. In 1951, Binion purchased the Eldorado Club on Fremont Street in downtown Las Vegas, Nevada and renamed it the Horseshoe Club. He established a reputation as a casino operator for providing customers with well-received hospitality and amenities. After his conviction for tax evasion in 1953, Binion sold the majority interest in the Horseshoe to Joe W. Brown, but later regained full ownership.

The Rico Izaguirre Collection of Harrah’s Entertainment Records (approximately 2003-2009) is comprised of records relating to employee engagement initiatives specific to the Atlantic City, New Jersey properties operated by Harrah’s Entertainment, Inc. The initiatives include “Winning Together,” a program intended to boost employees’ political engagement during the 2004 election season in the United States, and “Code Green,” an environmental sustainability program. The materials consist of manager’s handbooks, strategic plans, correspondence, annual reports, awards, and marketing materials, such as posters and newsletters. The collection also includes digital design files for various internal communications and Code Green brochures, handbooks, and fliers.

On March 6, 1979, Stan Hawkins interviewed furniture refinisher, Richard T. Chapter (born January 28th, 1933 in Maine) at his home in Las Vegas, Nevada. During the interview, Richard recalls swimming at the old ranch, going into the furniture refinishing business, and the cost of living in Las Vegas. He also discusses Howard Hughes, the Boulder Dam, and the Union Pacific Railroad. Richard’s wife is also present during the interview and interjects comments about the old Mormon Fort, gambling, local business, and the weather in Las Vegas.
