Harry Sax was born May 01, 1939 in Chicago, Illinois, the son to first generation American Jews. He spent his childhood on Chicago's Southside, where his family belonged to a progressive Reform congregation. After graduating from Hyde Park High School, he continued his education at Indiana University. In college, Sax was a member of the Zeta Beta Tau Jewish fraternity, participated in a singing group, and was a cadet in the Reserve Officers' Training Corps.

Oral history interviews with Rabbi Sanford Akselrad conducted by Barbara Tabach on May 29, 2020 and June 02, 2020 for The Great Pause: Las Vegas Chronicles of the COVID-19 Pandemic. Akselrad begins by discussing his early childhood, his family history, and why he moved to Las Vegas in 1988. He recalls the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, how people reacted at first, and how each age group was effected. Akselrad then explains the process of working from home, the advantages and disadvantages, and the changes he has experienced. He also talks about the difficulties of getting people together, businesses closing, and the unemployment rate. Lastly, Akselrad elaborates the relationship between Reformed Judaism and science.

David Ober oral history interview
Oral history interview with David Ober conducted by Stefani Evans on October 11, 2017 for the Building Las Vegas Oral History Project. In this interview, Ober discusses his upbringing in Tucson, Arizona and talks about his parents’ careers. He recalls moving to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1989 to work for his father’s home building business, R. A. Homes, and opening his real estate company, Jorant Commercial. Ober describes joining Temple Beth Sholom, his involvement with the Southern Nevada Home Builders Association, and developing the Desert Shores community. Later, Ober discusses his mother’s career as a teacher in the Clark County School District (CCSD) and her contributions in designing the first program for visually impaired students. Lastly, Ober talks about CCSD naming a school in honor of his parents.

During the 1950s, Dr. Jacob Paz grew up in an agricultural environment in Israel where he attended a very famous high school in Israel called Kadoorie where Yitzhak Rabin was a student. After his graduation, Jacob joined the Israeli army building his skills so that he could get into technical school after he fulfilled his army service. For two years he attended technical school and then started working for the Israel Atomic Energy Commission in Dimona, Israel making atomic bombs in the 1960’s. After working in Dimona, Jacob was accepted into UC Davis and moved to the United States to study veterinary medicine. After one semester, he realized that he preferred history and left California for New York City, There he earned degrees in Jewish history and chemistry from the Jewish Theological Seminary. Jackie Boiman (née Brooks) was born July 21, 1946 in Brooklyn, New York and raised in Levittown, New York. Her religious connection began in the Levittown Jewish Center Sunday School and under the close relationship she had with her grandmother, who kept kosher and inspired her to do so.
