Letizia, Marla R.

Marla Letizia was born January 17, 1953 and moved to Las Vegas, Nevada when she was two years old. She grew up in Las Vegas and was a former president of Congregation Ner Tamid, as well as a founding member of the board of trustees of the Meadows School in Las Vegas. Letizia founded Big Traffic Mobile Billboards in 2001 after leaving a successful broadcast journalism career to raise her two children. She met her husband, Tom Letizia, while working at KLAS-TV channel 8 as an assistant production manager.

Denton, Sara P., 1924-

Sara Denton was born November 12, 1924 in Paducah, Kentucky into a family of readers and thinkers. When the opportunity arose, at 18 years of age, to move to Washington, D.C. to work in the Signal Corps, she seized the opportunity. From the vantage point of her apartment, she could see the Secret Service assisting Franklin D. Roosevelt into his limousine at the back door of the White House. His polio was hidden from the public but this diversion allowed Sara and her friends to greet and be greeted by their hero.

Swatling, Carol-Ann

Carol-Ann Swatling was raised in Buffalo, New York, in what she subtly calls a “non-traditional upbringing.” Her primary caregivers during her early years were her maternal grandmother, who she fondly recalls and a great uncle and aunt who operated a hearse business. Her mother was in and out of her life, but it was her mother’s sister who mentored her while working at a retail store during high school.

McLean, Charlie

Charlie McLean was born in 1932 and raised in Scotland to a family of musicians. McLean’s dad started teaching him to play the saxophone when he was eight years old. By the time he was nine years old, he was performing in his father’s band, which included playing concerts for the munitions workers during World War II. When he was 15, McLean’s family migrated to the United States. Following graduating from high school, McLean was drafted and played with the Non-Commissioned Officers (NCO) Club Band.

Swift, Joan L.

Joan Swift served as Clark County Recorder for nearly twenty years: 1974-1993. Born in Wisconsin, she moved to Las Vegas during World War II. Although she initially began work at the recorder's office at age 18 - she left to marry and raise two sons until they were of school age. She returned in 1955 and worked there until her retirement in 1993. The office underwent many changes under tenure with regard to technology as well as a huge increase in recordings because of the growth in population.

Sabbath, Dennis, 1943-2000

Dennis Sabbath (1943-2000) was a prominent lawyer and community leader in Las Vegas, Nevada. Born July 17, 1943 in New York City, he grew up in Washington, D.C. He attended the University of Maryland and the University of Chicago Law School. In 1967 he married Roberta Sterman. The couple moved to Kodiak, Alaska in 1969 where Dennis performed legal services such as marriages, guardianships, and adoptions through the programs Legal Aid and Volunteers in Service to America (VISTA). After about two years in Alaska, the Sabbaths moved to Las Vegas.
