Sabbath, Roberta Sterman

Roberta Sabbath was born on December 23, 1943 in Richmond, Virginia. She received her bachelor's degree in French Studies from the University of Maryland, College Park in 1965 and married Dennis Sabbath in 1967. The couple spent two years in Chicago, Illinois before moving to Kodiak, Alaska in 1969 where she started an adult basic education program and a youth program. After about two years in Alaska, Sabbath and her husband moved to Las Vegas, Nevada.

Essays by Tom Figueras give details about his brother, Ladizlav or "Laci," who was a prodigy violin player in Germany during the Holocaust, and eventually ended up in a sub-camp of Buchenwald and then in Bergen-Belsen where he perished. Figueras survived the Holocaust, but his parents did not. He came to the United States in 1960 and became a marketing manager for a telecommunications company.

Berkovits, Myra, 1944-

Myra Berkovits (née Mosse) was born April 10, 1944 in Chicago, Illinois. Her father emigrated from Romania to Canada, later moving to Chicago, where he met Berkovits’s mother, a daughter of Russian immigrants. After graduating from Loyola University, Berkovits married and started her career as an educator teaching at an elementary school in inner city Chicago. She taught there for twelve years before moving with her husband, son and daughter to Las Vegas, Nevada.
