Abstract

Oral history interview with Laura Belle Kelch conducted by Claytee D. White on August 02, 2000 for the Boyer Early Las Vegas Oral History Project. Kelch discusses her various careers as a water colorist, an art teacher, a scout leader, and a volunteer in community organizations. She also discusses founding the first radio station in Las Vegas, Nevada, KENO, with her husband Maxwell Kelch.

Abstract

The Shirley Edmond Papers (approximately 1950-2019) contain newspaper clippings, magazines, and church bulletins related to Edmond's civic participation over the years. The collection also contains photographs and ephemera related to the Johnson family and their business on Jackson Street on the Westside, Johnson's Malt Shop. Shirley Edmond grew up on the Westside, and was the first African American woman in Southern Nevada promoted by the United States Post Office to be a supervisor. She also worked at Matt Kelly Elementary School.

Abstract

The Veterans' Voices: We're Listening Oral History Project (2021-2024) contains fifty interviews conducted by members of two UNLV entities, the Women’s Research Institute of Nevada (WRIN) and the Military & Veteran Services Center (MVSC). UNLV is nationally recognized as a Military Friendly School, and this project contains interviews spanning all branches and eras of the U.S. military and include a representative cross-section of the diversity of Veterans.

Images include scenes from the towns of Goodsprings, Goldfield, and Las Vegas, Nevada. The Goodsprings and Goldfield, Nevada images date to 1926; the Las Vegas images date to 1966.
