Oral history interview with Patricia Trent Morrissey and Michael Morrissey conducted by Stefani Evans and Claytee White on June 19, 2025 for the Game On! An Oral History of Las Vegas Sports project. In this interview, Patricia recalls growing up in Las Vegas, attending the Bubble Swim School, and being a lifeguard in the summer. Her father, Bruce Trent, was the city’s first Superintendent of Parks and Recreation. Michael recalls his childhood, also growing up in Las Vegas and playing football at Bishop Gorman High School. He also shares his perspective, as Patricia’s husband, being heavily involved in football and growing close with her family. They frequently played golf together, enjoyed sporting events, and at one point they all sat down to learn more about Bruce’s life. Patricia and Michael describe the effort they put into getting a park named after her father, and how satisfying it was to have that ceremony. They were both also heavily involved with Opportunity Village in its early years, and describe the experience of watching Opportunity Village grow with the help of Christina Hixson into the multi-facility non-profit it is today. Digital audio and transcript available.

In this interview, Saccenti recalls his childhood in New York and attending Runnin' Rebels basketball games at the Thomas & Mack Center while visiting family in the city. He enrolled at UNLV in 1993 as a Communications major, and was recruited to work for the Las Vegas Thunder indoor hockey team. Oral history interview with Governor Richard Bryan conducted by Stefani Evans, Claytee White, and Bethany Dayton on June 3, 2025 for the Game On! An Oral History of Las Vegas Sports project. In this interview, Governor Bryan discusses being born in Washington, D.C. before moving to Las Vegas, Nevada as a child in 1942. Bryan admits that he was never the strongest athlete, but was a fast runner and enjoyed playing baseball with his friends, and joined the track team in high school. He describes attending University of Nevada, Reno and then UC Hastings (San Francisco) for law. After graduating, he began practicing law in Las Vegas, watching the city expand. He recalls going to Cashman Field to attend various games, the location offering enthusiastic fans and a small enough venue to help build community amongst the watchers. Gov. Transcript of interview with Ike Lawrence Epstein by Barbara Tabach, August 24, 2017 and February 2, 2018

Date
2017-08-24
2018-02-02
Description

Ike Lawrence Epstein’s office at the recently opened UFC headquarters is sunlit and handsomely decorated. A black and white photo taken by the famous British photographer David Bailey of the Kray brother adorns the wall. Lawrence, as everyone knows him, is the son of Kenny Epstein and Donna Goldstein. He was born, in 1966, and raised in Las Vegas. He attended Vanderbilt University (BA 1989, JD 1992) and then returned to live full time in Las Vegas with his law degree in hand. In addition to being COO of the UFC, he is active in the family business, the El Cortez Hotel and Casino. In this oral history, Lawrence recalls his grandparents, their careers in Las Vegas, and his youthful favorite holidays being Passover and Thanksgiving. He became a bar mitzvah in Israel, a tradition he continues with his own children with Michelle Epstein. Lawrence serves the community as a board member of Meadows School and on the Stadium Board. As an executive with UFC [Ultimate Fighting Championship], Lawrence observes the overall magnitude of sports in Las Vegas in 2017, how it came to this point with professional sports, and what he envisions as the future possibilities of the city as an international sports destination.
