Oral history interview with Dr. Roberta Holton conducted by Wendy Park on November 20, 2006 for the Public School Principalship Oral History Project. In this interview, Holton reflects upon her 28-year career as a teacher and administrator with the Clark County School District. She discusses challenges that she faced in obtaining a teaching position, and some of her biggest challenges that she faced after being hired as a teacher and eventually principal. She also describes challenges that she faced in opening schools within the school district, and offers suggestions on how to be an effective principal and school administrator.

Marie reflects on her upbringing in Cagayan de Oro, Philippines and her love of music that came from her mother. Marie talks about studying music in college and traveling with her husband to Guam to become a music teacher at a Catholic school before immigrating to San Jose, California. She shares the culture shock they faced adapting to life in the United States and the higher cost of living in California, which caused the couple to move to Las Vegas. Marie discusses her life in Las Vegas, traditions and cultural celebrations she partakes in, and the American Dream.

Oral history interview with Eva White conducted by Jan Hagan on August 02, 2001 for the Public School Principalship Oral History Project. In this interview, White reflects upon her career as a teacher and administrator with Nevada’s Clark County School District (CCSD). She discusses her upbringing and the influence that her family had on her decision to become a teacher. She reflects upon her early experiences as a new teacher, working at a school near Nellis Air Force Base, and how she crafted her approach to education. She also discusses school integration, standardized testing, mentorships, and home-school learning gaps.

She discusses her priority in being a fair leader, and the importance of fairness in school administrators. In this interview, Goynes reflects upon his career as a teacher and administrator in Nevada’s Clark County School District (CCSD). He discusses his experiences becoming a teacher as an African American man during the 1950s and 1960s, and his early interactions with Native American students in Arizona. He then describes the process by which he joined CCSD in the 1960s, and quickly became an administrator. He describes his regular responsibilities, his experiences with school integration, and his efforts in maintaining working relationships with students, staff, and parents. He also offers suggestions for individuals interested in pursuing school administration.
