Abstract

Oral history interview with Ruth C. Norton conducted by Gary Melton on March 09, 1979 for the Ralph Roske Oral History Project on Early Las Vegas. In this interview, Norton discusses her arrival to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1959 to teach at an elementary school in Henderson, Nevada. Norton then discusses education curriculum, school athletics, and the overall state of education at the time. Later, Norton discusses adult education and special needs education.

Pradia, who moved to Las Vegas in 1995, teaches golf and is a board member of 1st Tee of Southern Nevada and the Nevada Senior Games, working to promote women golfers. He remains an active member of Omega Psi Phi fraternity.

Lockette, Agnes Louise, 1927-2011

Agnes P. Lockette was born April 27, 1927 in Albany, Georgia. Lockette worked for the Clark County School District as a teacher and for the University of Nevada, Las Vegas as an associate early childhood education professor. Lockette passed away on June 5, 2011.

Riceberg, Janis

Janis Riceberg moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1974 while attending Long Beach State University. She worked as a special education teacher for the Clark County School District for twenty years and began teaching at the College of Southern Nevada in 2003.

Goynes, Naomi

Naomi Jackson

Naomi Goynes was born as Naomi Jackson on October 30, 1933 in Memphis, Tennessee to a minister father. Her first job was as a maid, but she had dreams of attending college. When Goynes attended the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, she received her teaching degree in home economics. Goynes met her future husband, Theron Goynes, in Nashville, Arkansas where they both were young teachers in 1956.
