He stayed there until 1978, when he moved to Las Vegas, Nevada. He took a job as an inspector with the fire department, and remained in that position until he retired in 2003.

McWilliams, Iona, 1876-1969

Iona McWilliams was married to J. T. McWilliams, an early settler to the Las Vegas, Nevada area. Iona Ida McWilliams was born in 1876, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She was sent to school to learn to be a school teacher in Philadelphia. She later developed a lung ailment and her doctor suggested moving to Needles, California as a form of treatment. Iona met J. T. McWilliams in Needles and the two married in 1897. In 1898, she had a daughter that the couple named Emily Eleanor, often called Nellie. Iona McWilliams died in May of 1969 at age 92.

Oral history interview with Paul Huffey conducted by Claytee D. White on February 02, 2010 for the Voices of the Historic John S. Park Neighborhood. Paul Huffey discusses his family moving to the John S. Park Neighborhood in 1947, his father working on the construction of Hoover Dam, and Huffey working at Ronzoni's Department Store when he was in high school. Huffey then discusses graduating from the University of Nevada, Reno and teaching history at Basic High School in Henderson, Nevada for nine years.

On March 1, 1981, Alan Gurwitz interviewed Elton Garrett (born 1902 in St. Joseph, Missouri) about his experiences in Southern Nevada and more specifically his work in Boulder City. Garrett first talks about the development of Boulder City from its inception in 1931 and how it has grown throughout nearly fifty years. He also discusses his work in journalism for the Boulder City Journal, the building of Boulder Dam, and atomic testing at the Nevada Test Site. The second part of the interview involves a discussion of the founders of Nevada Southern University, Garrett’s work on legislative committees, and his work as a schoolteacher and school principal. The interview concludes with Garrett’s thoughts on the future of Boulder City and its continued growth.
