Kwon, Myoung-ja Lee

Myoung-ja Lee Kwon was born in 1943 on the grounds of the Kyongbok Palace in Korea. Her father’s occupation as a university professor which gave the family a higher status and allowed them to live in a state of prosperity. But war changed these circumstances. In 1965, after graduating from Seoul National University, Kwon got married and moved to the United States of America, where a year later she earned a Master’s degree in Library Science from Provo, Utah.

Taylor, Althia Loreece, 1948-

Shirley Edmond and Althia Taylor grew up on Jackson Avenue where their parents owned Johnson's Malt Shop. Both women worked in the postal service until their retirements; Shirley worked for 36 years and Althia for 32 years. Shirley went into management but Althia loved mail delivery even after 14 dog bites. Mackie Edmond worked for the Stardust and interacted with MOB figures like Frank Rosenthal. He explains why people thought that era was better than corporate ownership.

Public School Principalship Oral History Project

The Oral History of the Public School Principalship project, initiated in 1986, contains interviews with former elementary, middle, and high school principals. Conducted by Professor Patrick W. Carlton, Ph.D. and his graduate students, the documents capture the views, reminiscences, and accumulated knowledge of these veteran administrators. The collection consists of approximately 400 first-person accounts of service in public school administration by men and women serving in Nevada, Virginia, and 24 other states.

Abstract

Oral history interview with Linda Chase conducted by Claytee D. White on April 01, 2008 for the Boyer Early Las Vegas Oral History Project. In this interview, Chase discusses moving to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1955 and what life was like in the city at the time. She describes living in the Bonanza Village neighborhood, racial integration in Las Vegas, and popular recreational activities of the time. Chase talks about the Nevada Test Site, nuclear weapons tests, and an underground testing accident that lead to leukemia in those exposed to the radiation. Chase also discusses the future of Las Vegas being dependent on its water management and her nonfiction writing on Las Vegas.

He then discusses starting a law firm with Jerry Snyder and Oscar Goodman, starting his own law firm, serving as an assemblyman, investing in real estate, and serving as president of the North Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce. Irmalee discusses her family moving to Las Vegas from Reno, Nevada, being an active member of various social organizations, and working as a teacher.

Abstract

Oral history interview with Mary Hausch conducted by Claytee D. White on April 07, 2009 for the Boyer Early Las Vegas Oral History Project. In this interview, Hausch discusses her upbringing in Ohio and her career in education journalism during the 1960s and 1970s. She describes attending Ohio University during the protest movements against the Vietnam War and how the Kent State University shootings affected college life. Hausch then talks about working at the Las Vegas Review-Journal during the 1970s, where she covered the education system of Las Vegas, Nevada as it began enforcing racial integration in its schools. She explains how race relations were at the time and Nevada's busing program.
