Unidentified onlookers watch firemen extinguishing a building with a "Richfield" sign on the roof that has caught fire. Four storage tanks are visible to the left of the building. The Las Vegas Fire Department Battalion Chief's car is visible in the foreground. Description
A black and white image of Helen Slattery, Chicago General Traffic employee for United Airlines, sitting with Dutch Goerman, Secretary of the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce, in a vehicle from 1904 with the sign "Desert Love Buggy." This photo was taken from a time capsule in the cornerstone of the Union Pacific Railroad station located in Las Vegas. The time capsule was placed there in 1940 and was later retrieved when the building was demolished around 1970.

The street running from right top to bottom of the photo is Maryland Parkway. In the foreground the street is Karen Way and in the distance is Sahara Avenue. The large building at left is Vegas Village which had been completed two years earlier. Physical object has an insert containing additional biographical information.

Governor Russell cutting the ribbon at Scotty's Castle Road. Inscription with photo reads: "A rope held on one side by a dummy burrow [sic] and on the other side by a dummy prospector. Very western and unique. The road from Highway 95 to Scotty's Castle. Pahrump road was 'bumped' off top priority for the Castle Road, 'because Pahrump didn't warrant a road,' one of the Nye County Commissioners said." The hull of the $20,000,000 airplane, also known as the Flying Boat or Spruce Goose, being transferred from Culver City to Terminal Island in the Los Angeles Harbor. The Flying Boat was moved to Terminal Island's graving dock where construction was completed in June of 1947.

The men are raising the power lines so the fuselage can pass under.
