Series 7: Scrapbooks. Press clippings and publicity including advertisements, programs and show reviews for Arden shows and dancers at the Desert Inn, Moulin Rouge, Latin Quarter, Ciros. Also includes clippings on the Lido (Paris) and Lido (Las Vegas). Lido shows include: C'est Magnifique, Avec Plaisir, and Ca C'est Amour. Clippings on the Paris Lido are in French. Also included are clippings on Arden's Starlight Spectacular Stage and Aqua Show.

Abstract

The Walter Cartier Papers (1962-1998) primarily contain materials collected by Walter Cartier during his time working as company manager of Bal du Moulin Rouge at the Las Vegas Hilton in Las Vegas, Nevada. Materials include posters, show programs, and costume drawings as well as photographs, and slides of the show's opening night performance. Other images in the collection include reference photographs of performers in costumes. Other materials in this collection include show costumes designed by French costume designer, Edward Piekny, various costume designs created by Cartier, and a copy of his curriculum vitae from 1987. Programs for shows performed in 1962 at Casa Mañana Theatre in Fort Worth, Texas are also included in the collection.

Abstract

Oral history interview with Jerry Jackson conducted by Su Kim Chung on February 12, 2015 for the Boyer Early Las Vegas Oral History Project. In this interview, Jackson discusses his career as a dancer, choreographer, costume designer, and producer of shows in Las Vegas, Nevada and around the world. Jackson describes dancing at the Desert Inn, Moulin Rouge, Tropicana, and touring with production shows. He then recalls living in Las Vegas from the 1950s through the 1970s and compares the quality of show production throughout the years. He talks about his career with the production Folies-Bergere

Abstract

Oral history interviews with Ricky Lee Towers conducted by Claytee D. White on May 02, 2017 and May, 24 2017 for the African Americans in Las Vegas: a Collaborative Oral History Project. In the first interview, Towers discusses his upbringing in Las Vegas, Nevada and growing up in the Westside. He describes businesses on Jackson Street, the opening of the Moulin Rouge, and his experience as an African American card dealer. Towers talks about organized crime influences in the gaming industry, and the decrease of business on the Westside. In the second interview, Towers discusses the redevelopment of the Historic Westside community.
