Becker, Barry W.

Barry W. Becker’s father was a well-known land developer and real estate broker throughout the Los Angeles area. Howard Hughes told Barry’s father to purchase all the land they could in the West Charleston area of Las Vegas which initiated Becker Enterprises, Incorporated, in Southern Nevada and brought Barry and his family to the area in 1971.

Fine, Jeffrey

Jeffrey Fine is a third generation entrepreneur involved in the real estate, retail, and gaming industries in Southern Nevada. He is the owner and co-founder of Fifth Street Gaming, which owns and manages multiple casinos, hotels, bars, and restaurants throughout Las Vegas Valley. The company's flagship casino is the Downtown Grand in downtown Las Vegas. In 2002 he established Fine Concepts to manage his food and beverage business ventures, including the exclusive development of the Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf franchise in Nevada.

Description

Oral history interview with Maxine and Jack Cason conducted by Claytee D. White and Stefani Evans on September 22, 1016 for the Building Las Vegas Oral History Project. In this interview, Jack discusses his early life in Oklahoma and arriving to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1950. He recalls the formation of Saveway Super Service, Philips 66 service stations, the competition in the fuel industry, and the opening of the first Rebel service station. Jack talks about fuel terminals, fuel bulk plants, and becoming one of the largest fuel providers in southern Nevada. Later, Maxine and Jack talk about supporting local sports organizations. Lastly, Jack discusses his involvement in the University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV) Athletics Department, and being inducted into the UNLV Sports Hall of Fame.

Scope and Contents

The Early Appraisal Series dates from 1937 to 1973 and contains appraisals of residential and commercial properties in Southern Nevada. The bulk of the properties are in Las Vegas, but there are also appraisals from North Las Vegas, Henderson, and Logandale, Nevada as well as other cities. The earliest appraisals predate Bruner’s arrival in the office and were completed by A.L. Worswick. They vary in levels of detail, with some offering only a quick sketch of the property, to others that offer details about the property including materials used inside and information about the surrounding neighborhood.
